Piggott was regarded as one of the greatest Flat riders of all time and was honored in 2019 with a statue in Epsom unveiled by the Queen.
He won the Derby a record nine times, including the 1970 Triple Crown winner Nijinsky.
Piggott started horseback riding as a child and rode his first winner as a jockey in 1948, at just 12 years old.
His first Derby winner at Epsom came six years later in Never Say Die.
Piggott’s final win was at Palacegate Jack in 1994 and he retired a year later.
The legend was crowned jockey champion 11 times between 1960 and 1982.
He was also inducted into the British Champions Series Hall of Fame last year.

Rod Street, CEO of Great British Racing, said: “Lester was a true titan of the sport, someone who transcended horse racing.
“To this day, the number one answer to ‘naming a famous jockey’ remains Lester Piggott.
“Enigmatic and reserved, he was on the track where he spoke, with nine Derby wins among his 30 British Classics along with 11 Champion Jockey titles.
“He combined a fiercely competitive spirit with brilliant horsemanship and was revered by millions.
“It was only fitting that he became the first person to be inducted into the Flat Racing QIPCO British Champions Series Hall of Fame last year.
“We will be eternally grateful for the indelible contribution he made to British horse racing.”
