The force is stronger with the fans than it is for Star Wars. In a moment of woke virtue signaling, the Twitter account of the collapsing sci-fi series welcomed Moses Ingram to the Star Wars universe as she plays “Reva” in the new Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Instead of just welcoming her and leaving it there, the account didn’t release one, but two tweets about how fans shouldn’t be racist against her.
Searching through Twitter, Reva’s character isn’t without its criticisms, but if there is racism about her it’s been buried underneath legitimate criticisms about the character. This means that Star Wars had to focus on a handful of tweets (if that many because I still haven’t found any) in order to make it seem that any dislike of the character was based on the moral failings of its audience and not the sloppy writing of its creators.
The tweets come off as less of a welcome for Ingram and more of an attack on the fans:
We are proud to welcome Moses Ingram to the Star Wars family and excited for Reva’s story to unfold. If anyone intends to make her feel in any way unwelcome, we have only one thing to say: we resist.
There are more than 20 million sentient species in the Star Wars galaxy, don’t choose to be a racist.

Fans didn’t take the insult lightly and came back with an interesting response that the woke people running the Star Wars account probably didn’t anticipate.
At some point, they forgot that when The Force Awakens was released, the Chinese posters were altered from the American ones in one key way. Chinese censors didn’t want a black man featured so prominently and as a result, Disney/Star Wars minimized John Boyega’s character “Finn” from making up a large part of the poster to a very minimal part near the bottom.

It’s one of the more infamous moments in Disney’s history, and it’s a wonder that Disney/Star Wars would get on its soapbox and preach at its own fans about racism after such a massively well-known controversy.
Moreover, the accusation of racism makes no sense. Mace Windu (Samuel L. Jackson), Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams), Cere Junda (Debra Wilson), were all fan favorites within the series and were all black. Even Finn was considered the most intriguing character by many fans and was angry when his character was all but neutered storywise.
It’s not Star Wars fans that are racist, and demonstrably so.
This tweet from Star Wars reads more like a pre-emptive strike against bad reviews. Many feared the Obi-Wan miniseries was going to be a bait and switch where the main character, Obi-Wan Kenobi, is used as a way to draw in fans only to hand all the interesting characteristics to a character nobody asked for. Many companies have been using the “bait and switch” model to push woke nonsense on fans in various different programs. Reva is just the last switch with Obi-Wan being the bait.
Naturally, many fans are angry about this and instead of owning up to what it did, Star Wars seems to be shielding itself with accusations that complaints about Reva’s character can all be attributed to racism, not bad writing. It’s typical woke defense, but it’s not being bought by audiences.
