Philip Seymour Hoffman was an American actor, stage artist, producer, voice actor, and theatre director. He made his film debut in the 1991 independent crime film Triple Bogey on a Par Five Hole and went on to appear in a number of films, including Capote, Charlie Wilson’s War, Doubt, The Ides of March, The Master, Moneyball, The Talented Mr. Ripley, Magnolia, Almost Famous, and Synecdoche, New York. For his performance in the biographical drama film Capote, he bagged the Academy Award for “Best Actor” in 2006. In his New York Times obituary, Hoffman was described as “perhaps the most ambitious and widely admired American actor of his generation”.
