In a decision Friday, a Texas judge has ordered a stay on the directive signed by Governor Greg Abbott (R-Texas) for state family protective services to investigate the potential risk of child abuse in the process of children in Texas undergoing gender transition procedures and being prescribed hormone-altering medications.
A Texas judge on Friday blocked, at least for now, Governor Greg Abbott’s directive that child protective services investigate medical providers or parents over gender transition treatments for minors.
Travis County District Judge Jan Soifer issued a temporary restraining order at the request of the gay rights organization PFLAG, which sued Abbott and the state over his February mandate to the Texas Department of Family Protective Services.
“That families will be protected from invasive, unnecessary, and unnerving investigations by DFPS simply for helping their transgender children thrive and be themselves is a very good thing,” Brian Bond, PFLAG executive director, said in a statement.
As Madeline Leesman, my colleague at sister site Townhall.com reported Thursday:
Parents of transgender children in Texas are suing to stop the state from continuing child abuse investigations.

The Washington Post reported Thursday that at least nine families are being probed by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services for allowing their “transgender” children to undergo “gender-affirming” health care.
The lawsuit, filed by Lambda Legal, the American Civil Liberties Union, and the ACLU of Texas, was filed on behalf of three Texas families.
‘The suit requests that the court block state investigations of PFLAG families in Texas who are supporting their transgender children with medically necessary health care,” Lamba Legal wrote on its website.
A new lawsuit filed Wednesday is challenging Texas Gov. Abbott’s directive to investigate parents who provide gender-affirming care to their transgender children and seeks to block the state from investigating any families that belong to PFLAG. https://t.co/BPRANXAsO7 pic.twitter.com/6eLnHrD3f9

In its report Friday, Reuters noted that “Abbott did not immediately” provide comment on the judge’s decision on the lawsuit.
