Who was Liese Dodd?
A 22-year-old pregnant woman was found beheaded, just weeks before her family surprised her with a baby shower.
Liese Dodd, who was eight months pregnant with her first child, was discovered by her mother at her apartment in Alton, Illinois, on Thursday.
His decapitated head was found in a rubbish dump outside the building in a murder police described as “abhorrent”.
Arrested and Charged
Dodd’s ex-boyfriend, Deundrea Holloway, 22, was arrested on suspicion of the murder of the expectant mother and her unborn baby.
Dodd, who affectionately called her unborn child ‘my bean’, has been described by her family as a ‘shining light who cared for everyone.’
Her mother, Heidi Noel, said the family was planning a baby shower for Dodd later this month and was collecting gifts ahead of her birth in late July.
Noel, who is now planning a funeral for her daughter and her granddaughter, said that she had sent out the invitations and that the family was gathering the gifts.
She said Holloway was not the baby’s father, but that the couple had been in an on-and-off relationship for two years.
We were planning her baby shower for the end of this month,” Noel told KMOV. ‘I had just sent out invitations the previous Saturday for the baby shower. We were excited and gathering the items you need to have a baby.
He still hadn’t decided on a name. [She] said “my bean.” So basically we call the baby ‘bean baby’.’
Noel now plans to hold a “celebration of life” for his daughter and her grandson after Dodd’s decapitated body is found.
‘It’s not something I wish on anyone. So yeah, I’d rather not talk about it,’ she said.
The suspect has been charged with two counts of first degree murder, two counts of intentional homicide of an unborn child, dismemberment of a human body, motor vehicle offenses and concealment of a homicide death.

Holloway is being held in jail on $2,000,000 bond.
Family
This daughter, this mother-to-be, and her family were in the planning stages for a baby shower that was supposed to be at the end of June.
‘Instead, now the family is planning a funeral for what a monster did. Blameless. What a wild monster did to him.
Her mother had to go through something that no one should ever go through. First of all, no father should have to bury his child.
“But her mother hadn’t heard from her in a while and she wanted to go check on her to see if she was okay and found her in a way you can’t imagine.”
The suspect was booked into the Macoupin County Jail, where he was later identified as wanted for questioning by the Alton Police Department.
Madison County State’s Attorney Thomas Haine said: “We believe the evidence will show that the defendant’s horrific actions here killed both a young woman and the child she was carrying in her womb.”
“In the eyes of the law, both murders are the same and he will now face justice for both.”
Neighbors told KMOV they are praying for Dodd’s family.
Some of Noel’s classmates are planning an exhibition to commemorate his daughter.
“I really appreciate the support and I wish she knew how loved she was,” Noel said. “That she had never been alone, [and] that she could have gotten out of this relationship and had a full life.”
