Who is Eric R. Holder Jr ?

Eric R. Holder Jr. was convicted of killing Hussle, a beloved rapper from South Los Angeles who was shot at least 10 times in front of his clothing store more than three years ago.

A jury has convicted a former acquaintance of Nipsey Hussle of the rapper’s murder, three years after Hussle was shot outside his clothing store in Los Angeles, NBC Los Angeles reports.

Eric R. Holder Jr. was convicted of first-degree murder in the slaying of the beloved rapper and community leader on Wednesday.

Hussle Death

Hussle, a hip-hop artist and father of two who was born Ermias Asghedom, was shot to death at age 33 on March 31, 2019, in the parking lot in front of his store, The Marathon.

Holder had a conversation with Hussle and two others at The Marathon in South Los Angeles, but Holder was angry about accusations that he was a snitch, Los Angeles Deputy District Attorney John McKinney said during the trial.

Holder returned to the store later that day with a gun, McKinney said, where multiple witnesses said they saw him walk toward Hussle and open fire on the rapper.

Holder and Hussle grew up together and were both members of the Rollin 60s Neighborhood Crips gang, according to McKinney.

Charged

Holder was charged with one count of first-degree murder, along with two counts of attempted first-degree murder by two others who were injured in the shooting. The jury found him guilty of lesser charges against the surviving victims, landing instead on two counts of attempted voluntary manslaughter.

He faces a maximum sentence of life in prison and his sentencing is scheduled for September.

Videos and photos shown during the trial showed Holder fleeing the scene while holding a semi-automatic revolver. Hussle was shot at least 10 times.

Statement

McKinney accused Holder of premeditated murder during opening statements, a charge that Holder’s attorney, Aaron Jansen, refuted.

Jansen told the jury that Holder had attacked Hussle in a fit of “heated passion,” reacting to the conversation before he had time to calm down. He argued that the charges against Holder were excessive because there was no premeditated plan to kill Hussle.

Shooting

Bryannita Nicholson, who described herself as being in a casual relationship with Holder at the time, testified that she took him to the store before the shooting, according to NBC Los Angeles. According to her, the couple was eating in her car when Holder told Nicholson that he would be right back and that she should stay there.

She heard gunshots shortly after and Holder hurried back to the car and motioned for her to drive, Nicholson said.
