As soon as I saw the GE Opal Nugget Ice Maker Prime Day deal, I knew I had to write about it; a must-share, it’s arguably one of the best Prime Day kitchen deals we’ve seen so far.

I’m an ice chewer. Chewing ice isn’t something I would share with anyone, especially not my dentist. I’ve gone through several ice cube trays trying to find the type of ice I like—something I take very seriously. When I was young, I always preferred snow cones and popsicles over dairy ice cream so this is nothing new for me. I can tell you what restaurants have the best ice and rant on forever about why the nugget ice is the best ice (it’s the ideal chewing shape).

Knowing how much I love chewing ice, my boyfriend gifted me the GE Profile Opal ice maker for my birthday this past March—completely changing my ice game. I could say that the weather is warming up and that an ice maker will elevate all your summer drinks, from cocktails to mocktails to iced coffee. But the real reason I love this ice maker is simply that I like chewing on ice.

How Does the GE Opal Nugget Ice Maker Work?

This nugget ice maker is so easy to use. The first time we set it up, it took just about 10 to 15 minutes for the first ice nuggets to drop. I was so impressed that I immediately started grabbing some with the ice scooper instead of waiting for more. There are only three buttons (cleaning, light, and ice) so it’s very easy to manage. In total, making ice for drinks takes about 20 minutes, and the ice stays cool in the bin as long as you keep it turned on.

To use the GE Opal Nugget Ice Maker, I simply add water by removing the bin and pouring water (only use distilled) into the bottom jug layer. I then close the bin, press the “make ice” button, and done. Another cool thing I found is that my dog likes to chew this ice. It’s small enough for his little teeth (he’s a miniature dachshund) so I give him some whenever I make ice.

This particular model comes with a side tank. I don’t have that attachment myself, as I have a small kitchen and limited counter space, so it works out best without the attachment. If you have a large family and are making ice constantly, however, it could be useful.

Right now this GE ice maker is down to $429 from its original price of $579. It’s even cheaper to buy with the attachment than without it right now! While it’s still on the higher end, this best-selling ice maker rarely goes on sale, and it’s currently the lowest price it’s ever been, so if you want to save big, now’s your chance. But hurry, this Opal Nugget Ice Maker Amazon Prime Day deal won’t last for long.
