Depending on who you ask, Donald Trump is either in the clear following the FBI raid on his Florida home or he’s headed to the gallows. That should tell you how out of control the story has gotten, with the hysteria fed by numerous anonymously sourced leaks to a salivating press.
The revelation that Trump is being investigated under the Esponianage Act set leftwing hearts aflutter with wild speculation that the former president is a foreign agent for either Saudi Arabia or that old standby, Russia. No matter that Hillary Clinton was also investigated under that provision after which then-FBI Dir. James Comey pronounced no reasonable prosecutor would charge her. And while you’d think Trump should get the same treatment, you must be unaware of the “orange man bad” provision written into the nation’s laws.
Regardless of what the DOJ decides to do, though, the game here is the same one that’s been played for the last seven years. The government uses its power to target Trump followed by a deluge of unsubstantiated leaks to the press who dutifully use them to push the narrative that the walls are closing in, and by the time the facts actually come out, conventional wisdom has taken hold. It’s so boring and predictable at this point.
That brings me to the newest conspiracy theory reported by The New York Times. According to their “sources,” the FBI subpoenaed 60 days worth of surveillance footage from Mar-a-Lago. Why? Because it supposedly shows Trump associates, and you may want to sit down for this, moving boxes.
NEW: The surveillance footage the DOJ subpoenaed was for a 60-day period. According to a person familiar with the footage, it showed that after one instance in which the DOJ was in touch w Trump’s team, boxes were moved out of the storage area. https://t.co/JKTTvk2a5H

The Justice Department also subpoenaed surveillance footage from Mar-a-Lago recorded over a 60-day period, including views from outside the storage room. According to a person briefed on the matter, the footage showed that, after one instance in which Justice Department officials were in contact with Mr. Trump’s team, boxes were moved in and out of the room.
That activity prompted concern among investigators about the handling of the material. It is not clear when precisely the footage was from during the lengthy back-and-forth between Justice Department officials and Mr. Trump’s advisers, or whether the subpoena to Mr. Trump seeking additional documents had already been issued.

Wait, you mean to tell me that boxes may have been moved in and out of a storage room? Well, that does it. Start building the gallows, because Trump is toast after this revelation. How could he possibly defend himself from such damning evidence of wrong-doing?
Everyone sees what’s going on here. The Times pushes a headline about boxes being moved hoping its readers and gullible headline watchers on social media will assume that means Trump was trying to cover up the materials he had. That can’t be true, though, given that the FBI showed up and the boxes were right where they were reported to be.
The innuendo is the point, though. Almost every single Trump “bombshell” boils down to him doing something mundane and the press using leaks to make it sound nefarious. Besides, in this case, it’s obvious why the government subpoenaed the surveillance footage: They wanted to keep Trump from releasing it.
DOJ subpoenas security video so Trump can’t release it. The mafia has more integrity.

It would now be illegal for the former president to release any footage taken of the FBI’s ridiculous raid, showing them rifling through Melania Trump’s underwear drawer. How convenient is that?
All of this is just so tiring. Over and over, we do this same song and dance with no one ever being held accountable. When many if not all of these leaks end up false, no one will care, and the mainstream media will move right on to the next lie. The FBI and DOJ are hopelessly corrupt and the mainstream media are out to protect the state at all costs. It feels unsustainable, but as long as certain people hold power, things will never change.
