Who is Ezekiel Kelly ?
Authorities have arrested a man they say is responsible for multiple shootings Wednesday night, ending an hour-long search in which police urged people to stay indoors.
The Memphis Police Department identified the suspect as 19-year-old Ezekiel Kelly after receiving reports of a person shooting and posting live video on Facebook. It was not immediately known if anyone had died.
A neighborhood in South Memphis was under a shelter-in-place order as police searched for Kelly. The warrant was lifted after Kelly was taken into custody after 9 p.m. in the Whitehaven neighborhood, authorities said.
Police said Kelly was driving a light blue Infiniti and then changed vehicles to a gray Toyota with Arkansas plates.
Suspect
The Southaven Police Department said on Twitter that shortly before 9 p.m., officers responded to a motor vehicle theft and “immediately learned” that Kelly was the suspect.
Memphis police were investigating reports of a man driving through town, shooting and filming the incidents on Facebook Wednesday night.
The Facebook videos that Kelly posted earlier Wednesday were removed from the platform. Kelly’s Instagram account was also deleted.

Memphis Police Department Sgt. Louis Brownlee said Kelly has prior arrests for attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault and reckless endangerment in 2020. He was sentenced to three years but was released on March 16 of this year.
Police issued a first-degree murder warrant for Kelly on Wednesday night.
Shooting
The University of Memphis alerted the campus to a shooting on the southwest corner of campus. The person “immediately fled” the area and “there is currently no threat to the University,” according to the alerts.
“MATA leaders are acting with an abundance of caution and care for the safety of their drivers and passengers,” the public transportation service said in a statement late Wednesday.
Memphis has recently been rocked by several shootings in recent weeks, including the murder of a pastor during a daylight carjacking on his driveway, the murder of an activist during an argument over money, and the murder of a woman. who was kidnapped while on a pre-dawn run.
