Australian Aldi employees have been given a quiz to see if they can properly judge which customers they should ask for ID before allowing them to buy alcohol – and bizarrely, Gold Coast AFL star Matt Rowell’s face is front and centre.
The questionnaire shows photos of four different faces and asks staff to indicate which ones they would demand identification from before allowing them to make a purchase.
‘Please review the below photos and determine whether you would request the identification of those pictured if they were purchasing liquor,’ the document states.
‘Remember to utilise your Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) training and ask those who appear to be under the age of 25.’
Any diehard footy fans employed by the supermarket chain would have had a head start on the quiz, as they’d know Rowell is only 21.

The document was posted to Reddit on Monday with the title: ‘Liquor ID quiz sent to ALDI stores this week – what’s he buying?’
AFL fans found the post hilarious with the top-rated response being ‘Sunscreen’ – a joke about the redheaded midfielder’s fair skin.
‘Do they sell Sherrins?’ joked another poster.
‘Couple Great Northern longnecks,’ said a third.
Rowell was recruited by Gold Coast with the first selection in the 2019 AFL draft. He was nominated for the 2020 AFL Rising Star award in round 2 of the 2020 season
Rowell won nine Brownlow Medal votes in the first three games of his debut 2020 season before missing the rest of the year due to a shoulder reconstruction.
He was expected to kick on and live up to his billing as a future star, but hasn’t kicked on in the Suns’ last two campaigns.
Rowell had a decent but not spectacular 2022 season, averaging 19 disposals – 13 of them contested – across 20 games.
Eight-time All-Australian and dual Brownlow medalist Gary Ablett is also a big fan of the youngster and has stated that he’d like to spend some time with Rowell to help him build his game.
