Who is Ruslan Zinin ?
A gunman opened fire inside a Russian military enlistment office in the far eastern city of Irkutsk, leaving the head of military recruitment in critical condition.
Dramatic footage captured the moment the man walked up to the recruiter, stood onstage in front of the new recruits and fired a single shot at point-blank range as he yelled, “Nobody’s going to fight!”
The man, identified as Ruslan Zinin, 25, was angry after his friend was called into the army and told his mother that he would go to the recruiting office to enlist voluntarily, according to local reports.
Igor Kobzev, governor of the Irkutsk region, said military commissar Alexander Eliseev was in “critical condition” after the attack and the shooter was arrested on the spot “and will definitely be punished.”
It comes as opposition to Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine grows after he gave the order to start recruiting men into the army, with a recruiting office in the Volgograd region bombed overnight.

He has since been arrested and told police that he attacked the office in protest against the mobilization order.

Demonstrations are also continuing across Russia, with more than 2,300 people arrested so far according to monitoring group OVD-Info.
Meanwhile, people continue to flee the country, with an estimated 260,000 crossing the border to avoid Putin’s draft order.
Footage showed dozens of people, at least one of them in military-style camouflage, trudging through the Kazbegi border crossing high in the Caucasus mountains.
Protests against Putin’s draft order have been most pronounced in the southern region of Dagestan, some 65 miles east of the border crossing, where police and other officials have come under attack.
Women have been filmed clashing with police in an attempt to prevent men from being forcibly taken into compulsory military service.
They chanted: ‘No to war’ and ‘What a shame’. In one video, a woman is heard saying: ‘Don’t let them take our men.’
In one of the images, a police officer can be seen confronting a crowd of angry women, one of whom tells him: “Russia attacked Ukraine, we are not blind.”
The clash suggests that the lie of Putin, who was forced to go to war with Ukraine over NATO expansion, is failing to convince some citizens.
In Yakutia, Russia’s coldest region, women performed a traditional dance surrounding police in an anti-war protest after thousands of men were detained.
This comes amid claims that around 30 female protesters were forcibly stripped naked inside a police station in Brateevo in a “classic torture technique”.
The women reported the abuse to human rights defenders before their phones were confiscated.
A video shows a protesting grandmother being dragged away by several armed and agitated riot police from her protest near the Kremlin.
Another shows a man preparing to abandon the call after discovering that he is expected to sleep on the floor.

“I came to [fight for] our homeland, but I refuse,” the man from Dagestan said in a video. ‘Just look at what’s going on here. I’m going home.
‘There’s no bed, there’s no shit for us here… Not even a bed.’
There are real fears among men seeking to flee Russia that Putin, who turns 70 next month, will imminently order Soviet-style border closures, preventing all men of military age from fleeing the call to countries like Mongolia, Kazakhstan and Georgia.
In the village of Tyumenevo in the Kemerovo region, reports say that all the local men, a total of 59, were mobilized, a blatant abuse of how the system is supposed to work.
As Putin’s alleged partner made his first appearance since June at a sporting event, he is believed to be holed up in his highly guarded northern palace amid the Valdai forests.

Meanwhile, other Russian women act as if there is no war.

She seems not to care in the world that her compatriots inflict misery on Ukraine while others seek to prevent the horror from worsening with Putin’s mobilization.
The Kremlin’s wife, Tatiana Navka, 47, posted photos with her makeup freshly done on her while her husband, Dmitry Peskov, 54, deputy head of the Kremlin administration, acts as Putin’s spokesman during the war.
