Who is Waheed Foster ?
A homeless man who was caught on surveillance footage punching a woman inside a Queens subway station last week was arrested as a teenager decades ago for killing his own grandmother.
The suspect, Waheed Foster, 41, has a long criminal history, including a bust for beating his grandmother to death in 1995 when he was just 14 years old.
The elderly victim, Ariela Mascha, had 20 broken ribs, a stab wound to her leg and a punctured liver, police said at the time.
Attack
The brutal attack was sparked by a fight over money, police said at the time.
He was later convicted of her death, but it is unclear how long he served.
He was living with her grandmother at the time of her death and confessed to killing her days after the fatal encounter when detectives confronted him about inconsistencies in her story, Newsday reported in 1995.
Last week, Foster allegedly lunged at a woman after she ignored him on a train, police said Monday.
The attack happened just after 5 a.m. Sept. 20 when the 33-year-old victim tried to get off the northbound A train at the Howard Beach stop without confronting the man, police said.

Foster allegedly chased the woman off the train and attacked her near the subway entrance, police said.
Judge Denise Johnson ordered that Foster be held without bail during his arraignment, records show.
The victim told ABC 7 that he hasn’t slept in a week because he has a headache.
“Do you know how scared I am right now? I was never a person who was afraid,” victim Elizabeth Gomes told the television station.
She said that Foster was incoherent before the attack.
Arrested and Charged
Foster was also arrested in 2010 for stabbing a 50-year-old woman in the cheek and shoulder, police sources said. The violence occurred at a mental institution where he beat up two other people, according to a lawsuit stemming from the incident.
He is on probation until 2024 for the 2010 assault, the sources said.
Foster’s other prior arrests include arrests for assaulting a woman with a screwdriver, criminal mischief, robbery and larceny, the sources said.
In 2004, he attempted to escape from a transport vehicle while incarcerated in a state prison, the Post-Standard reported at the time.
Foster has two other criminal matters pending on charges of delinquent conduct and petty theft.
