Andres Cuervo, a well-known singer, composer, and model, died on October 9 at the age of 40. Billboard originally reported the news on October 11. According to Cuervo’s publicist, Jaque, he died of a heart attack and was in his Paris flat at the time of death. He apparently went into cardiac arrest after having his sixth epileptic episode. Kiko Becerra, his former manager, paid homage to him on social media, writing:
“Andres Cuervo Becerra departed us too soon. We are astounded and perplexed. The Greeks believed that dying young was a favor from the gods since only the golden phase of human life was lived: youth.”
Andres Cuervo rose to prominence as one of Colombia’s most popular performers in the previous decade.
Andres Cuervo, who was born on April 15, 1988, was also a model for the Army of Peace and Love. He began performing at school, displaying his pop and rock and roll inclinations, as well as his creative ability. Cuervo’s debut studio album, Tras de Ti, was released in 2008 and quickly became one of Mexico’s greatest successes. This was followed by Este Soy Yo in 2013, which included top ten singles on Mexican and Spanish radio as well as a cross-country tour.
His latest album, Historias de Amor, was published in 2015, and on Valentine’s Day, a video for his song, Como Yo Te Quiero, was released. Andres rose to prominence with his track La Receta, which peaked at number one on the Billboard tropical charts in the United States. Later, an English version of the song named The Cure was published.
In March 2018, he released another song, Vivirla Bien, which peaked at number 18 on Billboard’s Tropical Chart. The song’s music video earned about 11 million views on YouTube, making it one of his career’s most-watched videos. His music videos for Te Extrano, Destino Casualidad, Luna Cuentale, and Te Quiero Para Mi had almost 40 million views on YouTube.
He disclosed that he was diagnosed with bipolar illness five years ago during an interview in 2020. When asked about his music, he said that his essence is Latin pop, but after being diagnosed with bipolar illness, he started exploring other genres such as reggae, rock, and folk, which he added to his next album. He continued:
“But, if I had to characterize my music, I am from Barranquilla, Colombia, which is on the coast and is home to Shakira and Sofia Vergara… I prefer to include rhythm and sounds from my background, such as the accordion, in my music. I employ a lot of sounds from my roots while still trying to be international, so I’m primarily pop and am now dabbling a bit with urban because I think it may open more doors for me and it’s a lot of fun.”
