A Dallas, Texas man has been arrested on charges of fatally shooting a 21-year-old woman after she punched him at a basketball game, police and the victim’s family say.
Cameron Hogg, 31, was arrested Thursday and charged with murder in connection with the Oct. 3 fatal shooting of 21-year-old Asia Womack, the Dallas Police Department announced.
Police said the shooting unfolded in the 4100 block of Hamilton Avenue around 7:40 p.m. and responding officers discovered Womack on the sidewalk with “multiple gunshot wounds.”
She was taken to a hospital where she died.
The family’s pastor, John Delley, of Faith Tabernacle Church of God in Christ, told the station that the shooting occurred at the end of a basketball game in a park when the shooter apparently couldn’t accept defeat.
“When it gets to the point where you leave the scene, you go to the house, get a gun and come back,” he said. “I believe in forgiveness, but justice must be done.”
A $5,000 reward was announced for information leading to an arrest in Womack’s death. Last week, police announced that a warrant had been issued for Hogg’s arrest. It is not clear why it took him several days to finally stop it.
He was arraigned early Friday on charges of murder, fleeing a police officer and driving while intoxicated with bail set at $1.75 million, court records show.

A search of the Dallas County felony and misdemeanor court system found she had seven other cases ranging from aggravated robbery in 2009 to deadly conduct in 2021.
Asia’s mother, Andrea Womack, said that her daughter was friends with Hogg and that she had trusted him for a long time.
“She would get calls from him when she was in jail and she would buy him everything she needed,” she told the Dallas Morning News. “She called him brother.”
Womack’s obituary remembered her as a young woman who had a passion for basketball from a young age.
“Asia was designed like no other. Her gift was expressed through her love of basketball. She had a big heart full of love, joy and laughter. She had a smile that could make your day,” it said. she.
