Remi Loader, 27, and Jacob Montique, 19, were each convicted of one count of attempted murder, grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon at Cambridge Crown Court and jailed last week.

Loader, homeless, was sentenced to 27 years in prison for the savage attack, which was caught on CCTV, while Montique, of Trumpington, Cambs, was sentenced to a total of 21 years.

The pair saw their victims drinking at a Cambridge bar on the night of August 20, 2021.

The pair are believed to have planned their attack before leaving the college town bar, walking to Montique’s vehicle and donning black clothing and face masks.

Detective Sergeant Hamish Cowley said: ‘Loader and Montique are prolific, high-damage criminals who have struck fear within their communities.

“This was a planned and premeditated attack, believed to have been motivated by revenge for a previous incident, one of which used a large hunting knife.

“Both victims were lucky to survive the attack.”

The brutal assault left a 30-year-old man with stab wounds to his stomach, left leg and left hand.

A 37-year-old man was stabbed in the stomach, chest and head.

Both were placed in an induced coma at Cambridge University Addenbrookes Hospital, where doctors said the injuries would have been fatal without prompt medical intervention.

More than a year later, both men are still in recovery.

The attack was caught on CCTV, with a shocking bird’s-eye view showing the pair running from market stalls and brutally assaulting men as they walked down the street.

In a terrifying moment, a victim is shown to panic and choose to help his friend before running away and chasing after an attacker.

He then falls while he is chased by the second man, who appears to attack him when he is down.

The two then disappear into the dark market, with one appearing to raise his arms in celebration.

Detective Cowley described the investigation as “extremely complex with limited witnesses or forensic opportunities”.

“With the help of CCTV and mobile phone evidence, we were able to locate the couple at the scene and this dangerous duo will now be locked away from the public for some considerable time,” he said.
