Taylor and her sister, Symone, know about tennis at an early age from her mother. Her mother was a tennis player and used to play at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Mo. Her friend Donald Young Sr. was a coach, and she asked him to coach her daughter. Donald accepted her request and started to train the two sisters together.

Symone Townsend used to play tennis at her college, Florida A&M. She came from Chicago to Florida for her higher education and became the No.1 lady Rattlers of Florida A&M.

Taylor Townsend, a younger sister of Symone, started playing tennis at age six and became the first player who participated in XS Tennis.

Her mother, Sheila, introduced Tennis to both sisters at an early age. She sent her daughters to coach Donald Young, as Donald Young and Sheila grew up in the south side of Chicago and went to the same tennis class together.

Due to less improvement with Donald, Sheila decided to send Taylor to the U.S.T.A. Training Center. Sheila said they knew they could provide the finances Taylor needed to get the opportunities, experience, and training.

She made her debut at the Open in August 2010, but she lost in the first round of the girls’ singles qualifying tournaments.
