Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed he cried so much during Portugal’s Euro 2016 final victory over France that he drank a glass of champagne to rehydrate, breaking his alcohol ban.

The Portugal captain was forced off the pitch through injury just 25 minutes into the 1-0 victory at the Stade de France, breaking down in tears after he collided with Dimitri Payet.

However, Eder’s extra-time goal ensured Ronaldo would get his hands on the trophy and quench his thirst with a glass of champagne which ‘went to my head’.

Ronaldo told Diletta Leotta of DAZN: ‘The title of European Champion with Portugal is the most important prize I have ever won.

‘It was an incredible, unforgettable evening. I cried, I laughed, I suffered, I shouted, I got drunk. During that game, I cried so much that I was dehydrated.

‘At the end of the game, during the celebrations, I drank a glass of champagne and immediately it went to my head.

‘I never drink but that day was so special. The most important trophy ever.’

Ronaldo also discussed his future, and revealed he will only go into management if he gets ‘bored’.

He added: ‘Right now, I don’t care to become a coach. Maybe one day I will be bored and I will feel like it, never say never.

‘If I became a coach, I would be a motivator. The coach must transmit his passions and his talents to the team.

‘I like to have fun, dribble, shoot, score goals. I would pass this onto the team as a motivator.’
