Doctors diagnosed her in November 2016 after she collapsed at her father’s funeral following a long-haul flight to Nigeria from the US.
After being admitted to a hospital in Abuja, she had blood transfusions to fight off a life-threatening complication called aplastic anemia, where her bone marrow could no longer produce new blood cells.
An illness has taken her down at the height of her career, and she has never fully recovered.
Halima also explained that her ailing health was why she had been absent from the public eye over the past few years. She stated that she wanted to give priority to her health. She also thanked her well-wishers and loved ones.
