Lettuce and salad kits from two brands, Revolution Farms and Fresh Express, have been recalled due to possible contamination with listeria, according to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The Revolution Farms recall was first announced on April 2 after the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development tested a package of the brand’s Green Sweet Crisp lettuce and it came back positive for Listeria monocytogenes, the bacteria that cause listeriosis infection. The recall was expanded four days later, when the product was linked to a multistate outbreak. The company didn’t specify where (or how many) illnesses have been reported in connection to the outbreak, but it did state that recalled products were sold to retailers and distributors in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, and Wisconsin.

The Fresh Express recall was announced on April 7 after a sample from a salad kit made by the company, which was analyzed by the Georgia Department of Agriculture, also tested positive for Listeria. At the time the recall was announced, no illnesses connected to the Fresh Express recall had been reported.

Listeriosis can cause a range of symptoms, including diarrhea, vomiting, and flu-like symptoms such as fever muscle aches, and fatigue, according to the Centers for Disease and Prevention (CDC).
