Steve Ira Hofstetter was born on September 11, 1979, in Queens, New York. His family lived in a variety of locations when he was growing up, including Briarwood, Rego Park, and Forest Hill. He graduated in 1997 from Hunter College High School, where he attended. After graduating, he enrolled at Columbia University, a general studies institution, and earned a B.A. there in 2002.
