Included in the top four priority groups are those over 70s, those who are clinically extremely vulnerable, those in care homes, and health and care workers.

Mr Johnson’s vaccination targets comes after an 82-year-old retired maintenance manager became the first person in the UK to receive the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 jab.

More than a million people in the UK have already been vaccinated with the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine and its roll out will continue at pace in the coming weeks.

The Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccination efforts will be ramped up at a greater pace thanks to easier storage conditions.
