As the only daughter of a real estate tycoon mother who owns multiple luxury development projects in China, US-educated Ms Luo appeared to have lived a lavish life, studying and travelling around the world from a young age.

In 2014, she founded her own company TriBeluga, an incubation service firm that connected global startups with China.

Various Hong Kong news outlets, including HK01, Apple Daily and Ming Pao, reported that Ms Luo jumped from her luxurious, duplex apartment last Wednesday.

The reports also said that she carried her five-month-old daughter, who also died in the incident.

Hong Kong police said they found the bodies of a 34-year-old woman and her five-month-old daughter lying on a podium of an apartment block in Yau Ma Tei on January 6.

In a statement to MailOnline on Tuesday, the police only identified the deceased by their surname Luo.

‘The woman and the baby girl were certified dead at scene. Initial investigation revealed that they fell from a unit. No will note was found at scene,’ said the police, who are still investigating the incident.

‘Post-mortem examinations will be conducted later to ascertain the cause of deaths of the deceased.’

In an online statement, the police said that officers were deployed to the scene after receiving a report from a local security guard who had spotted the corpses.

In an interview with Chinese news site The Cover, Alice Chiu Tsang Hok-Wan, a Hong Kong philanthropist and friend of Ms Luo’s disclosed the socialite’s emotional struggle in the lead-up to her death.

‘After falling pregnant, [Ms Luo] hoped to get married to her boyfriend and honour their relationship in an open and official manner. However, her boyfriend was not ready to get married,’ Mrs Chiu told The Cover.

She described Ms Luo as an ‘optimistic, positive and kind’ woman who was passionate about charity.

‘I will miss her forever,’ she added.

Ms Luo, a single mother, had kept the identify of her baby’s father a secret.

She was believed to have taken her life after suffering post-natal depression, reported Hong Kong newspaper Ming Pao.

The article alleged that she jumped to her death without wearing clothing from her 5,000-square-foot penthouse while carrying her baby in her arms in Ho Man Tin, Kowloon.

Ms Luo appeared to have enjoyed an extravagant life as a socialite as she was frequently pictured with influential figures around the world, including former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and British pop superstar Rita Ora.

In a recent Instagram post, Ms Luo shared a photo with her daughter, Aier, while celebrating her baby girl’s 100-day birthday.

The mother wrote: ‘She is God’s way to give me perspective on life. Thank you for showing up in my life my beloved daughter.’

Ms Luo was reportedly the only daughter of Luo Lin, the chairman of Jinlin Real Estate in south-western Chinese metropolis Chengdu, who owns multiple luxury development projects across the country.

Her father is said to have come from a doctor family who have practised Chinese traditional medicine for six generations.

Her parents divorced when she was little, as Ms Luo previously revealed on her social media.

Born in Chengdu, Ms Luo moved to Hong Kong at the age of four before studying in Australia and the United States.

She was said to have worked as a translator for her mother before founding her own company in 2014.

In a 2015 interview, Ms Luo confessed that it was not easy to be born to a wealthy family because they had to ‘show up’ to be deemed successful.

‘Other people think that it is easier for us to do things, but that’s not the case,’ she said.

‘When ordinary people can [be deemed successful by completing] just 60 per cent of a mission, we have to do 80 per cent [to be recognised on the same level]. In particular, because I am a woman, I have to really show up and finish 95 per cent of a task to be regarded as successful.’

She added that she was ready to prove her business capabilities to others through her diligence.
