When it comes to hygiene not everyone follows the same routine.
For example, some like to shower or bathe once a day but for others it could be more or less.
It is the same for how often we change our clothes. While there are some items it seems universally acceptable to wear more than once before washing, such as jumpers and trousers, this rule does not apply to other items.
Underwear specifically is one item that a doctor has warned should be changed every day.
This may seem obvious to a lot of people, but Doctor Jen Caudle warned that “not everybody agrees”.
In a TikTok video she advised her more than 164,000 followers to put on fresh undies every day or risk a number of health issues.
“I personally think you should change your underwear every day,” she said.
“It’s my personal practice as a human but also as a physician.
“I think that also for health reasons it’s wise.”
She explained further: “Changing your underwear every day helps potentially lower the risk of moisture being trapped in your genital area and developing bacterial yeast infections and stuff like that.”
It can also affect your skin. Not changing your underwear regularly could increase your risk of rashes, irritation and eczema, she said.
Dr Caudle continued: “I think it’s a wise thing, kind of like we change our clothes every day. I’m kind of along the line. So yeah, let’s change our underwear every day for those reasons and others.”
She added that the choice to not change your underwear daily could be linked to where you live and your culture among other factors.
