Bryce Stanfield, the late college football player, had no wife and was not married. The 21-year-old defensive lineman died on Friday, two days after fainting at the school stadium. Stanfield is survived by his parents, Teri and Fred Stanfield, and his maternal grandpa, Earl Smith. He had earlier published a picture of the four of them upon their graduation from Harrison High School in 2021.

Elizabeth Davis, Furman’s president, said in a letter to the campus community that Bryce fainted after a Wednesday morning exercise and was rushed to the hospital. The defensive tackle was then put on life support. Aside from being a brilliant football player and an excellent student, the boy also helped with local schools. He would visit patients at Greenville Children’s Hospital and read to them.

Proud dad Fred had posted many images from the graduation ceremony with the caption, “Diploma Time!” Teri released a video clip in September of last year depicting Bryce at age nine wearing Phillies apparel and Bryce in 2023 wearing a Paladins jersey.

Teri created a montage of Bryce from his birth to his final birthday the next day. The Stanfield family may have just visited Disney World since Teri shared these images from the trip. Teri’s friend, April, logged into her account on Wednesday, the day Bryce fell, to inform her that Teri and Fred were with him in the hospital. Teri posted the obituary for Bryce on her Facebook page on Sunday, two days after his death. Furman Head Coach Clay Hendrix stated on behalf of the institution. The statement went on to say, “We are heartbroken beyond measure with Bryce’s sudden passing and ask that everyone, first and foremost, lift up his parents, Fred and Teri Stanfield and their family, in prayer on this day and in the days ahead.”
