A health expert has shared one theory as to why Kate Middleton does not appear to be wearing a wedding ring in a recent, controversial family photograph. The image in question showed Princess Kate smiling surrounded by her three children, George, Charlotte and Louis.
Posted to social media, it was the first official picture of the Duchess of Cambridge since she underwent abdominal surgery in January.
The image was released to mark Mother’s Day. However, just hours after it was posted, picture agencies began recalling the photo citing concerns it had been “manipulated”.
Social media users were quick to spot a number of editing discrepancies, including one in which Princess Charlotte’s sleeve did not line up.
Today a post to Kate’s official Instagram account claimed she had edited the image herself.
“Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing,” it said.
“I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day. C.”
However, the original unedited photo has not been released.
But the editing oddities were not the only unusual thing Royal fans spotted in the picture.
Many picked up on the fact that a wedding ring cannot be seen on Kate’s finger.
While there are many possible explanations for this, one expert shared that it could be linked to her recent surgery.
Daniel Herman, nutritionist and founder of Bio-Synergy, revealed the operation could have caused weight loss, resulting in the ring becoming too big to wear.
“Weight loss after abdominal surgery is a strong possibility, dependent on the type of surgery, the individual’s pre-existing health conditions, and their post-operative recovery process,” he told Express.co.uk .
“Following abdominal surgery, individuals may be placed on a restricted diet initially to aid in healing and to prevent complications, which could further contribute to weight loss.
“In addition to this Kate is known for her fitness, so having time off, may well have reduced her appetite further.”
He continued: “After surgery, many people experience a reduced appetite as a result of pain, medication side effects, and changes in digestion.
“This decreased appetite may lead to unintentional weight loss in the immediate postoperative period.
“The recovery period after surgery often involves dietary changes, reduced appetite, and temporary restrictions on physical activity, which can contribute to weight loss during the recovery phase.”
Kate was admitted to the London Clinic on January 16 for a planned abdominal surgery.
Almost two weeks later the 42-year-old was reported to have returned home. Kensington Palace said she was “doing well” at this time.
As reported by the Mail Online, Kate was photographed today (March 11) leaving Windsor Castle with Prince William.
