Rory, 59, described the intimate moment on his blog, saying they exchanged vows “under a beautiful timber-frame pavilion” in Greycliff, Montana, surrounded by family and friends.

He also noted that his connection to Rebecca was all thanks to his and Joey’s 10-year-old daughter, Indiana.

“Indiana only saw Rebecca as ‘Miss Rebecca’ her schoolteacher and our friend,” Rory explained.

“And although she had become much more than that to me, I was very careful to let Indy ‘figure it out’ on her own.”

HAPPILY EVER AFTER

Indiana eventually put the pieces together and even encouraged the couple to tie the knot.

“‘And I told Miss Rebecca that my Mama’s been gone a long time. And if she marries you, maybe she could be my new mother,'” Rory recalled his daughter’s words.

The touching exchange brought Rory—who is also the father of two older daughters, Heidi and Hopie, from a previous relationship—to tears, though it led to a very happy ending.

Rory made the day extra special by surprising his bride with a performance of the song I Do, which he shared on his YouTube channel.

However, the songwriter admitted that wasn’t his favorite moment of the ceremony.

“When Indiana was given the gift of having a Mama in her life again. And Rebecca was given the gift of being a mother. And we became a family,” Rory sweetly shared.

Rory and Joey’s story pulled at heartstrings all over the world as fans followed her devastating health battle.

Joey died in March 2016 at the age of 40 after a two-year fight with Stage 4 cervical cancer.

“My wife’s greatest dream came true today,” Rory wrote on his blog following her passing.

SAYING GOODBYE

“She is in Heaven. The cancer is gone, the pain has ceased and all her tears are dry. Joey is in the arms of her beloved brother Justin and using her pretty voice to sing for her savior.

“As we were gathered around her, holding hands and praying, my precious bride breathed her last (breath). And a moment later took her first breath on the other side,” his post read.

Rory and Joey rose to fame after winning third place in CMT’s reality series Can You Duet?

They went on to release seven albums as the country and bluegrass duo Joey + Rory.
