When you wake up, you may have a routine you enjoy, whether it’s a quick shower before dashing off to work or spending early moments scrolling through the phone.

However, by just dedicating a few minutes each day to prepare one beverage, could see you live longer and reduce the risk of various conditions and diseases. And it’s not the dreaded green smoothie.

Health experts from WebMD suggest that simply consuming a daily cup of coffee, which is readily available in most supermarkets for around £1, could offer these benefits. However, to fully enjoy these advantages, it might be wise to skip the usual added sugars, such as syrups and flavorings.

So what are the health benefits of coffee?

According to a recent video by WebMD on TikTok, the health benefits vary and can help protect you against:

  • Stroke
  • Liver disease
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Heart disease
  • Gallstones

Continuing their advice on their website, the health experts reveal: “Some studies indicate that regularly drinking caffeinated or decaffeinated coffee may reduce the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. As a bonus, the caffeine in coffee does not have a notable impact on blood sugar.”

It’s excellent news for coffee enthusiasts as the beloved morning brew is said to be as a rich source of antioxidants, such as hydrocinnamic acids and polyphenols. These compounds could contribute to the prevention of various chronic and acute conditions.

In addition to diabetes, it can also help reduce the risk of cancer. They explain: “Coffee may play a role in reducing the risk of several types of cancer. Studies find that people who drink coffee regularly are less likely to develop prostate cancer. Additionally, the caffeine in coffee may help prevent everything from nonmelanoma skin cancer to endometrial cancer.”

Avoid doing this…

If you don’t enjoy black coffee, the health experts suggest adding a small amount of low-fat milk or a milk alternative, such as almond milk.

They warn: “Be sure to drink plenty of water when consuming coffee, as the beverage acts as a diuretic and can increase the risk of dehydration. Limit your coffee intake if you are pregnant or have high blood pressure.”
