R&B singer-songwriter SZA shocked fans after revealing she would be taking a break from live performances.

SZA, who recently performed headlining sets at Chicago’s Lollapalooza and Montreal’s Osheaga Festival, announced the news on X.

“Yesterday was my last show for a while,” SZA posted on X.

“Finally bout to get my life together thank u God,” she added.

Fans were understandably taken aback by the announcement, sharing their thoughts on social media.

“Dear god bring us sza back and we will give you taylor swift instead,” one user wrote.

Other fans were more understanding of the “deserved” break, given that she’s been touring almost non-stop since 2023.

“Deserved, she literally just got off of a 60+ show tour,” another fan commented.

“SZA deserves all the rest and relaxation,” one fan wrote, adding, “Looking forward to her comeback when she’s ready.”

“This is not good news,” one fan commented.

“Can she actually do her job for once?” another fan questioned.

Despite the news, SZA isn’t stepping away from the music industry anytime soon.

‘Justice for SZA’ say Glastonbury fans as headliner is hit by more sound issues

During her headlining set at Chicago’s Lollapalooza festival, SZA played snippets from her unreleased track, Cry Baby.

“It’s not out, but it will be,” she told the roaring crowd.

“Ooh-ooh, I know you told stories about me / Most of them awful, all of them true / Here’s some for you, yeah-ooh,” SZA sang.

She then abruptly switched tracks, playing Garden (Say It like Dat), one of the singles from her debut album, 2017’s Ctrl.

SZA has also been teasing a new project, titled Lana, which will reportedly feature previously unreleased and unheard material.

“Will be dropping the leaks and outtakes from SOS as promised as the deluxe asap,” SZA shared on X in March.

“Lana deserves more time and music no one’s ever heard before,” she added.

SOS, the second studio album from the singer, quickly became a commercial and critical success.

Released in December 2022, the album debuted in the top spot on the Billboard 200 and spent ten non-consecutive weeks on the chart.

SOS was named Rolling Stone’s Best Album of the Year in 2023.

SZA embarked on a worldwide tour for the album, dubbed the SOS Tour, in February 2023.

The tour ran for 63 shows through May 2, 2024, after which SZA hit the summer concert circuit.

According to her website, SZA has two upcoming concert dates scheduled for November.

These include a show on November 20 in Bahrain, and on November 23 in Abu Dhabi.

It’s unclear whether her live performance hiatus will end by then, or if the shows will have to be rescheduled.
