A fan in attendance at the show shared a TikTok video of Chappell, 26, on stage performing her hit song Hot to Go.

She danced around the stage for a moment before grabbing the microphone and skipping down the stage.

“It’s so weird how VIP thinks they’re so way too cool to do this,” she said.

The Pink Pony Club crooner stopped at the far end of the stage and shouted into the microphone, “You’re not fun!”

“Chappell Roan called out the VIP section for not doing the hot to go dance,” the fan captioned their post.

Fans familiar with the song know it includes a dance in which fans use their arms to spell out H-O-T-T-O-G-O during the chorus.

Chappell’s performance at Outsidelands drew a massive crowd of about 50,000 people, per an estimate in the San Fransisco Chronicle.

75,000 people are believed to have attended the festival.

The soundbite from the pop icon’s performance has inspired a larger trend.

SOCIAL MEDIA BUZZ

Online, fans have been using the sound to call out people for various reasons.

Masie Peters used the sound to joke about boyfriends at concerts, captioning their video, “When the boyfriends in the audience don’t know all the words to my songs.”

A number of teachers have used it to mock their students’ behavior, as it’s back-to-school season.

“When its obvious the teacher spent time and money planning an activity for us but the popular kids keep laughing and calling it stupid,” one social media user captioned a video of them lipsyncing to the audio.

“POV: Teaching the group of kids who are ‘too cool’ to participate in fun activities,” another user captioned their own video.

KEEPING IT REAL

Chappell has been popular for some time, but she’s seen a significant spike in her fandom this summer.

The singer took the stage in July for a show in North Carolina, during which she got emotional with her supporters.

Chappell went on her first tour in 2023 and is now set to perform in Europe.

During the show, she confessed that she was struggling with her newfound success.

She paused her performance, wiping tears from her eyes as she made the moving confession.

“I just want to be honest with the crowd and I just want to … I just feel a little off today. I think that my career’s just kind of gone really fast, and it’s really hard to keep up,” she admitted.

“I’m just being honest that I’m having a hard time today. So, I’m sorry that… I’m not trying to, like, give you a lesser show. It’s just…there’s a lot going on. That’s all,” she added.

Fans in the audience held their arms in the air, making hearts with their hands in a show of support.

“Just, thank you for understanding. This is all I’ve ever wanted, it’s just… it just hits me sometimes, so thank you,” she concluded.

A clip of the vulnerable moment was posted online, where fans in the comments sent kind words.

“Awww it’s ok to be overwhelmed,” one fan posted on X.

“…Dude, this is so real. Girl has had a WILD few months. I hope she takes however much time she needs to get back in her zone. We’ll wait, the music is that good,” another gushed.

“She should know that she could show up and just sit there and breath and I would still be satisfied. She’s a legend, hope she realizes that she can allow herself to rest and relax,” a third wrote.

“Wish her the best,” posted a fourth fan.
