Cage The Elephant confirmed as support act

Cage The Elephant returned with their first new song in five years in January, ‘Neon Pill’, which was also the band’s first new song to be released since frontman Matt Shultz’ legal troubles last year.

The song also saw them reunite with producer John Hill, who recorded it with them at Sonic Ranch in Tornillo, Texas.

Who are expected to join Noel and Liam on stage?

If the speculation about support acts has been rife over the past few weeks, the question over which musicians will join Oasis on their stadium shows has been fever-pitch.

Among the most likely are Bonehead, below, an original member of Oasis and said by Noel to be the “spirit of the band”. Anyone who has seen the Supersonic documentary will know what that means.

Also in the frame is former Heavy Stereo member Gem Archer the amenable Geordie and long-term Oasis/Beady Eye/High-Flying Bird guitarist.

Andy Bell, guitarist with Oxford indie outfit Ride, is widely expected to bag a spot; he switched to playing bass in Oasis following the departure of original bass player Paul ‘Guigsy’ McGuigan.

Former drummers Alan White and Tony McCarroll are unlikely to be on the payroll – the latter because, in the nicest possible way, Noel thought he was pretty rubbish first time around, leading to an early departure and the obligatory lawsuit when the money started rolling in.

Oasis were never big in America … why?

That’s a tricky question to answer – I suppose it all depends on who you ask but there’s no doubt their early “escapades” scuppered their chances of mega success. During an early US tour in the mid-90s, Noel walked out after falling out with Liam – though he did get a song out of it – Talk Tonight (after meeting a girl on a plane).

On a subsequent US tour, Liam refused to leave London to join the band claiming he didn’t have “anywhere to live”.

American promoters are notoriously unforgiving when they have to cancel shows … The inside story at present is Oasis contracts are water-tight. We shall see …

UK fans slam band for ‘poor communications’

Oasis fans in the UK are demanding refunds after being forced to pay over the odds for tickets through dynamic pricing – a practice the band’s management has said will not apply to those buying tickets for the US dates.

One fan said: “ie we can sell out in the UK but not in the US.”
