This is the amusing moment elderly care home residents took part in an ‘inking and drinking’ day as they received temporary tattoos and enjoyed a couple of beers.

Castleford House, in Chepstow, Wales, handed out tattoo stickers for around 15 residents – along with complimentary bottles of alcohol.

The care home put on the fun event on July 11 after one resident said they’d always wanted a tattoo, while others had also regularly complemented Head of Lifestyles Amelia Pace on her inking.

Amelia, who’s been working at the home for seven years, came up with the idea for tattoos and booze to bring some joy to the home, and said it was a big success.

‘I wasn’t expecting such a positive response from the residents – because some older people really don’t like tattoos,’ she said. ‘But they all loved it.

‘I’ve got tattoos myself and there’s only one resident with a tattoo. Others often say they like my arm, and one resident previously say they want one.

‘I said, “well let’s do an inking and drinking day.” We got some temporary tattoos in and made it a real thing. We also had a massive crate of coronas.’

Amelia even got the sound of a tattoo gun playing through a speaker to make the whole experience even more realistic.

‘We played it through the Alexa,’ she said. ‘We had it on quietly in the background because that’s all you can hear in these tattoo places.

‘We tried to style the place like a tattoo parlour – rock and roll music, even a makeshift waiting room. Everyone was just sat around drinking beer, socialising.’

On whether any of the residents felt the affects of the alcohol, Amelia added: ‘They were merry – they maybe had one or two each. They were just laughing and giggling.’

Amelia said they’ve kept hold of the rest of the stick on tattoos and hope to put on a similar sort of event soon.
