Upmarket department store Fortnum & Mason has been mocked online for selling a single packet of crisps for an eye-watering £24.95.

The London-based luxury food retailer is flogging a 500g tin of Spanish brand Bonilla la Vista Patatas Fritas for the huge sum, which left many online flabbergasted.

Critics pointed out 24 bag multi-pack of Walkers Crisps weighing 600g in total for just £3.50 from Sainsbury’s while three 150g bags of ‘posh’ Kettle Chips from Waitrose would set you back £6.

One man offended by the pricey crisps raged: ‘Who is this for?

‘Hipsters who want their soup served on a carving plate ‘paired’ with a slotted spoon so there are gymnastics to eat and be charged through the nose to wear most of it?’

Another woman slammed: ‘Eat the rich.’

Other critics observed the crisp container looks like a paint tin.

‘It looks like a blinking tin of paint,’ one man said.
