A former police officer who sexually assaulted a schoolgirl has been fined £200 for breaching a court order.
Alexander Murphy, 49, had been put on the sex offenders list for the assault and also supplying alcohol to other youngsters.
But when officers attended his house for a routine check they found an undeclared credit card on his mobile phone.
Murphy, who resigned in disgrace, claimed it had been an oversight but later failed to report to a police station – breaching rules on sex offenders.
Murphy, from Strathaven, Lanarkshire, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court and admitted failing to notify police of the credit card between June and July.
He was fined by Sheriff Alasdair MacFadyen.
Depute fiscal Morag McLintock told the court: ‘His mobile telephone had been checked by police officers given his status.
‘During that search a ZOPA Visa Credit card was noticed.
‘He attended on the 30th of July and notified the police of the credit card and was told that a report would be made to the fiscal.
‘It appears this was a mistake which was rectified by the accused.’

Andy Iles, defending, said: ‘He now receives Universal Credit and was previously employed as a police officer.
‘Police examined his phone and his banking app and noticed this card which had been missed.
‘Officers were sympathetic to that and he later attended a police station but it was closed and then re-attended.
‘It is a genuine mistake and there has been a huge change in circumstances since his conviction.’
Sheriff MacFadyen said: ‘I’m going to treat this as a genuine mistake. A financial penalty is appropriate to bring home the unacceptability of your carelessness.’
Murphy dodged jail earlier this year after he admitted sexually assaulting the 15-year-old schoolgirl at a house party in Uddingston, Lanarkshire, in March 2019.
He told her: ‘You are my favourite, you are a wee cutie. You have got a cute smile but I don’t mean that in a paedophile way.’
The former constable also admitted a breach of the peace and was fined £1,000.
He was banned from having unsupervised contact with girls under the age of 16, put under supervision for two years and placed on the sex offenders’ register.
