However, his execution was put on hold, as then Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper decided against executing or granting him clemency.

As of March 2020, Dunlap has been sentenced to life imprisonment without parole.

He is currently one of the three inmates serving death row without parole in Colorado.

He entered the family restaurant as a customer, stayed till the off-hours, and started shooting his former co-workers.
