AARON Carter’s posthumous song, Grateful, has been released, one year after the singer’s tragic death.
In November 2022, the pop star was found unresponsive in the bathtub of his Lancaster, California home and pronounced dead at the scene.
Last month, it was announced that the last song Aaron, 34, recorded before his death would drop soon.
Songwriter and friend Brian Cassidy shared the news on Instagram by posting the single’s cover, featuring childhood pics of him and Aaron.
“Coming Soon. Grateful i got to be apart of your life and thank you for letting me be your friend. I wish we could have had more memories here on this earth but I am extremely grateful for the ones I have. Fly High Legend. This one is for you,” Brian captioned the post.
On the track, released on Friday, Aaron sang: “Sunshine through my window, but it’s been a minute since I felt like this/Been a long week but I’m good though, every single breath is is feeling like a gift.”
Aaron co-wrote the song with Brian who opened up to People about his special memories with the I Want Candy singer.
“This [song] reminds me of the Aaron that I know,” he told the outlet. “He just sounds so good on it. This is a positive way to remember Aaron.”
Aaron’s friend, Morgan Matthews, who also worked on the song, revealed that he struggled to listen to the track as he’s still coping with the loss.
“It was hard for me to hear the song and record it. I couldn’t record it. I would lose it, I would start crying every time,” Morgan admitted.
“I still kind of am [recovering]. Sometimes I’ll go in my messages and read what he sent me. And you go through that and you realize a good one died young. It just sucks.”
DEVASTATING LOSS
According to an autopsy report released in April, Aaron drowned in his bathtub after taking alprazolam, a generic version of Xanax, and inhaling compressed difluoroethane, a propellant used in cans of compressed air.
The House of Carters alum – who was the younger brother of Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter, 44 – became “incapacitated while in the bathtub due to the effects” of the drugs.
This resulted in him slipping underneath the water and drowning, the autopsy report stated.
GRIEVING FAMILY
Aaron’s fiancée Melanie Martin, 31, exclusively told The U.S. Sun that, despite the results of the autopsy report, she doesn’t believe he drowned.
“I am not getting the closure I need because I don’t buy it,” the model said.
“He was found with clothing on the coroner told me, how would he have drowned with clothing on.
“I still have a lot more questions I would like answered regarding the police investigation.”
Melanie added that “while Aaron did have a dependency issue, he was so much more than his issues” and that she hoped people would “start to focus on all the good Aaron put into this world.”
She also told The U.S. Sun how difficult it has been to deal with Aaron’s death in the public eye while raising their two-year-old son, Prince.
MORE HEARTBREAK
The Carter family faced more tragedy in December 2023 when Aaron’s sister, Bobbie Jean, 41, was found unresponsive on her bathroom floor.
Her death was determined as an accidental drug overdose, per legal documents obtained by TMZ.
The Hillsborough County Medical Examiner in Florida determined that her death was due to the combined effects of methamphetamine and fentanyl.
Jane Carter confirmed her daughter’s death to TMZ in December, saying, “I am in shock from learning of the sudden death of my daughter, Bobbie Jean.
“And I will need time to process the terrible reality of this happening for the third time.
“When I am able to think clearly, I’ll release a fuller statement; but until then I would request to be left to grieve in private.”
