Aaron Judge Facts
- Aaron was adopted the day after his birth and because he did not have any contact with his biological parents, his ethnicity can not be confirmed with 100% certainty.
- During his high school days, he was a 3-sport star. He played as a pitcher and first baseman for the baseball team, a wide receiver for the football team, and a center for the basketball team. He set a school record for touchdowns (17) in football and led the basketball team in points per game (18.2).
- In 2011, he was a part of his university’s baseball team that shared the WAC (Western Athletic Conference) regular season title, won the WAC Tournament, and qualified for the 2011 NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Division I Baseball Tournament. In his junior university year, he led his team in home runs, doubles, and runs batted in (RBIs).
- In 2017, he became the first MLB (Major League Baseball) rookie to have won the Home Run Derby (an annual home run hitting competition that is customarily held the day before the MLB ‘All-Star Game’).
- Aaron ended that season with 52 home runs, setting a new MLB rookie record. It was overtaken by Pete Alonso who hit 53 home runs in 2019.
- In 2019, he won the ‘Wilson Defensive Player of the Year Award’ which is presented annually to the best defensive player at each fielding position in MLB.
- In 2021, he won the ‘Fielding Bible Award’ which is presented annually to the best defensive player for each fielding position in MLB, based on statistical analysis.
- As of September 2022, he had jointly held the record for the most number of home runs (61) in a single season in the AL (American League).
- It has been reported by a senior broadcaster that Aaron, before each game at the Yankee Stadium, follows a weird ritual. He tosses exactly 40 sunflower seeds in the grass behind home plate, supposedly for each man on the extended team roster. He also recites a prayer (which is unknown to anyone) after doing so.
- He is also known to keep a note on his phone that reads ‘.179’, his batting average in the MLB in 2016, as a source of motivation.
