ABBA star Björn Ulvaeus has made a cryptic comment about the band’s future.

The Swedish musician spoke about ABBA during a recent podcast appearance.

In the interview, Björn, 79, spoke about the future of ABBA after their recent honor.

Björn has been in the band – along with Agnetha Fältskog, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad – since 1972.

At the end of May, all of the bandmates reunited at the Royal Palace in Stockholm, Sweden.

ABBA was being honored by the Swedish royal family, and were given the Order of the Vasa for their “very outstanding efforts in Swedish and international music life.”

The event marked the first time the Order of the Vasa had been given out in 50.

“We stood there quietly, accepting it out of the king’s hand and him saying a few words, it was a very quiet and very elegant ceremony.

“All four of us of course were there,” Björn said of the event on the Rosebud With Gyles Brandreth podcast, according to NME.

However, the pop music sensation added that he and his bandmates thought it might be “the last occasion” that ABBA would all get together again.

When asked if ABBA met frequently, Björn said, “In public very rarely, and Frida [Anni-Frid Lyngstad] said to me afterwards, ‘This might be the last occasion.’

“Very sad, and I thought about that afterwards, but we’re not getting any younger.”

Björn was also asked whether ABBA might release new music, but firmly shut down the idea.

“No, Voyage the album was the last you’ll ever hear from us, he said, referring to the album released in 2021.

However, much like the current ABBA Voyage show – which uses avatars of the band members as they appeared in 1979 along with pre-recorded vocals – Björn hinted that the group wouldn’t be against more experimenting with technology for fans.

“There will be new exciting formats in the future that we know very little about right now.

“AI, the metaverse, there are lots of interesting and exciting things happening creatively that ABBA might be involved in as well,” he concluded.

RIDING SOLO

While Björn said that fans shouldn’t expect new music from ABBA, one of its members is paving their own path.

Last August, it was announced that ABBA member Agnetha was beginning a solo music career after last releasing music in 2013.

The singer secured a record contract with BMG at the age of 73.

Agnetha went on to release a single in August 2023, followed by an album, A+, that October.

“Agnetha loved being back in the studio with Abba and it inspired her to relaunch her solo career,” an insider shared.

“She has been in regular contact for months with the team at BMG in London and they have helped develop her new sound.

“After a long time working on new music, there is finally a body of work which she loves and which is ready for release.”
