Aneeshwar Gautam is an Indian professional cricketer who came to prominence in February 2022 as a member of the Indian squad that had won the 2022 ICC (International Cricket Council) Under-19 Cricket World Cup. This was India’s 4th successive appearance in the final of the tournament after losing efforts in 2016 and 2020 and a winning campaign in 2018. This was also the 5th time that India had lifted the trophy after victorious campaigns in 2000, 2008, 2012, and 2018. A couple of months before this, in December 2021, Aneeshwar was a part of the Indian squad (although he did not make it to the playing XI of any of India’s 5 matches) that had triumphed at the 2021 ACC (Asian Cricket Council) Under-19 Asia Cup. This was the 8th time that India had won this competition out of the 9 editions that had been played. In February 2022, he had been selected by the KSCA (Karnataka State Cricket Association) to represent Karnataka in the Ranji Trophy (India’s premier domestic first-class cricket competition).

Aneeshwar Gautam Facts
- Just before the 2021 ACC Under-19 Asia Cup that was held in the last 2 weeks of December 2021, the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India), the governing body for the sport in India, had organized a tri-series to help the Indian squad prepare for the Asia Cup. The series had featured 2 teams from India (India Under-19 A and India Under-19 B) along with Bangladesh’s national under-19 team. Aneeshwar had been named the captain of the India Under-19 B squad and had led them to the final of the preparatory tournament.
- Despite this, he was unable to break into the playing XI in any of India’s 5 matches at the 2021 ACC Under-19 Asia Cup and this trend continued in the opening match of India’s campaign, against South Africa, in the 2022 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup.
- However, soon after that match, news broke that regular captain Yash Dhull and 5 other members of the Indian squad had been tested positive for COVID-19. This meant that all of those players had to miss out on the next (and last) 2 matches of the group stage, against Ireland and Uganda. This had allowed Aneeshwar to stake a claim in India’s playing XI in those 2 matches.
- The match against Ireland was his Youth ODI debut. He did not get to bat as India racked up 307/5 but picked up 2 wickets in just the 4 overs that he got to bowl.
- Against Uganda, he came into bat only in the 48th over by when India had already amassed a humongous score of 383/5. His cameo of 12 runs off 9 balls had helped India cross the 400-run mark. India had then bundled out Uganda for just 79 runs and defeated them by 326 runs. This was the second-biggest victory margin in the history of Youth ODIs.
- Once the first-choice players returned after recovering from COVID-19, Aneeshwar had to make way for them in the playing XI for the rest of India’s matches (quarter-final, semi-final, and final).
- At the 2022 IPL (Indian Premier League) mega auction held in February 2022, he had been acquired by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for INR 20 lakhs (USD 26k).
