News of her death was shared on the artist’s Facebook page.

The singer’s cause of death has not been shared.

Rich Engel, her friend and manager, said he was saddened to share the news of her death.

Tributes have poured in from across the music industry.

“We are saddened,” the singer Sheila Escovedo said.

“The Escovedo family sends our deepest condolences.”

“Rest easy lady,” the jazz trumpeter Tom Browne said.

Fans have been left heartbroken by Bofill’s death as they reminisced on their memories of watching the star in action.

Weeks before her death Bofill gushed at how many listeners she had.

In May, she shared a post that revealed she had more than 290,000 new listeners over 28 days.

“That’s a lot of birthday presents, thank you,” she said.

Her death comes just years after she was the victim of a cruel hoax.

Bofill, from New York City, opened up on that experience in an interview with the lifestyle magazine Essence in 2020.

Bofill said she was inundated with calls after rumors started to spread.

“Friends calling up [saying]. ‘Oh my God, am I talking to the ghost of Angela Bofill?!” she said.

Rest easy lady.

“Thank god it’s not true.”

She revealed that she laughed when people started posting tributes.

Bofill had battled ill health having suffered two strokes in 2006 and 2007.

The stroke in 2006 paralyzed her on one side and she was unable to talk, per The Washington Post.

Bofill suffered her second stroke in July 2007 before returning to the stage in 2011.

Bofill was unable to sing following her strokes and she joked that she was “happy to have a break” after being on the road for around 25 years.

Throughout her career which spanned more than five decades, she received several studio albums and was nominated for the Best R&B/Soul Female Artist ahead of the 1984 American Music Awards.

She told how she handed Michael Jackson a trophy and was invited to the afterparty by Diana Ross, per Essence.

She gushed that Ross liked her outfit.

Bofill was inducted into the Annual Women Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2023.
