KIM Kardashian controversially appeared in a documentary about Vogue in the 1990s because of her friendship with the fashion bible’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, The U.S. Sun has been told.

Kim, 43, raised eyebrows after taking part in the upcoming 6-part Hulu documentary In Vogue: The 90s as a talking head.

The reality TV queen, 43, features in the series alongside a host of huge names from the decade like Gwyneth Paltrow, Victoria Beckham, Elizabeth Hurley and Kate Moss – despite only being a kid during that period.

After the first trailer was released last week, fans questioned what personal insight Kim can offer on how Vogue magazine evolved fashion.

An insider with ties to the streaming giant revealed that one key reason for Kim’s role on the show was her personal link to Anna.

“The number one reason Kim is in this documentary series is Kim’s very solid, hard-won relationship with Vogue boss Anna Wintour,” the source said.

“It took many years to build that level of trust between them but Kim is very loyal to Anna as a result and when Anna invites her to participate in a project, Kim doesn’t say no.

“Kim didn’t campaign to be involved and didn’t pressure anybody to be featured with her talking head interview.

“She was invited, and she talked to the filmmakers for free.”

The insider mentioned Kim’s relationship with Hulu, which produces. her family’s reality show The Kardashians.

Other A-list stars featured in the Vogue show include Mary J. Blige, Sarah Jessica Parker, Nicole Kidman, Claire Danes, and Naomi Campbell.

Anna offers her insight alongside other Vogue editors such as Edward Enninful, Tonne Goodman, and Hamish Bowles.

Kim Kardashian appears in In Vogue: The 90s – but fans question her role in Hulu’s elite fashion documentary

Very few would question why such figures feature in the show since many of them impacted the fashion world during the time period.

But fans were left confused about Kim’s involvement and voiced their criticism on social media.

“Kim is definitely a reality pop culture icon – however, a lot of her style and aesthetic was molded after,” one wrote in an online thread about the documentary.

Others pointed out that Kim only became known in the fashion scene much later.

The Kardashians’ star has been on the cover of American Vogue three times.

The first was in April 2014 with her then-fiance, Kanye West.

She was granted her first solo cover in May 2019 and again posed for the coveted spot in the March 2022 issue.

In Vogue: The 90s premieres on Hulu in the US on September 13.

It will be shown on Disney+ in the UK and the rest of Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
