NELLY and Ashanti have made two huge announcements in the past 24 hours, they’re getting married and they’re expecting a baby.
The two musicians were popular in the 1990s and early 2000s and are responsible for several hits that millennials love.
Ashanti, 43, and Nelly, 49, first dated in 2003 before breaking up ten years later.
The couple revisited their relationship in 2023 and decided to move forward with their love for better or for worse.
On Wednesday, Ashanti posted a video on Instagram to share her pregnancy announcement.
The video was captioned, “Baby baby baby baby….”
It showed the superstar getting ready to go on stage for a performance as her mother Tina Douglas asked her how long she would be until show time.
She then walked through a curtain holding a pregnancy test and announced she would need “about nine months.”
The video was also an advertisement for Proov, an at-home fertility testing kit.
That same day, the couple revealed they were engaged to be married, according to Essence.
She said, “This new year of my life is such a blessing full of love, hope, and anticipation.”
She admitted that she’s been looking forward to becoming a mother for a long time, and she was happy to be able to share it with her family and fans.
This will be Ashanti’s first child, but it will be Nelly’s fifth.
He has a daughter named Chanelle, and a son named Cornell Jr., and he adopted his sister Jackie Donahue’s two children Shawn and Sydney Thomas.
Jackie died of leukemia in 2005, leaving her kids behind.
He had his first two biological children with Channetta Valentine, 47, who does her best to remain out of the limelight.
