SYDNEY Sweeney has inched closer to stepping into Jane Fonda’s old Barbarella spacesuit.
However, fans are worried the Euphoria breakout is in danger of being typecast in a very specific way.
As her star continues to rise, Sydney has reportedly signed on to star in a big screen Barbarella remake.
Director Edgar Wright, a cult hero for movies like Baby Driver, is in talks to direct, according to Deadline.
The original Barbarella saw Jane Fonda as the title character – a future astronaut and space traveler sent to find a dangerous scientist who has created a weapon that could destroy humanity.
The movie, which came out in 1968, was not a hit, but has since become a cult classic, in part thanks to its mature themes, nudity, and frequent sensuality.
Sydney is no stranger to going naked in her shows and movies, including her role on HBO’s Euphoria and films like The Voyeurs and Anyone But You.
While many are excited for her to take on the titular role, others are worried about overexposure.
“I’m starting to notice a pattern when it comes to her roles,” one person posted on X, formerly Twitter, kicking off a discussion. “I don’t know if it’s her team, her personal decision or just Hollywood. But it’s getting weird.”
“I noticed it,” one person replied. “She’s a really great actress but I feel like she needs a new agent.”
“Just seems like she’s getting taken advantage of,” another reasoned.
However, none of that seems to matter to Sydney, who knows exactly what she is signing up for.
“Barbarella is such a fun character to explore. She embraces her femininity and sexuality, and I love that,” the 26-year-old previously told the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “She uses sex as a weapon. and I think that’s such an interesting way into the sci-fi world.”
Sydney, who is also an executive producer on the film, revealed she was a fan of the original.
“I watched the original and was like, ‘This is incredibly insane and beyond iconic.'” she said. “I thought, ‘This would be interesting to be made in today’s world.'”
Sydney said she would even be open to discussion about welcoming 86-year-old Fonda back for a part in the reboot.

“It depends if she wants to be involved,” she clarified. “I’m always up for talking to as many people as possible.”
EUPHORIC DEBUT
The original Barbarella proved controversial, although it turned Jane into an international sex symbol, she later said she had mixed feelings about the movie as she was suffering from bulimia at the time of filming and got drunk before shooting the nude scene.
But Sydney is not deterred by controversy — or stripping on screen — and will start work on Barbarella after she finishes filming the third season of Euphoria for HBO.
Talking about her first experience of getting naked in the drama, Sydney told the Awards Chatter podcast, “I randomly brought a lot of family members to the premiere, which was the pilot.
“I was just so excited because it was the big Hollywood premiere and that is what I have dreamt of for so long.
“I wanted to share that experience with my family and I didn’t think about the actual experience.”
“I love my grandma so much but, when we got done, she leaned down — she was sitting two or three over from me — and she said, ‘You have the best t*ts in Hollywood,'” she continued.
“I said, ‘Thank you so much,’ because I was sinking in my chair the whole time thinking, What have I done?’ But she made me feel better.”
