A popular radio host has revealed how giving up his daily beer and wine habit helped him to lose a staggering 34 kilograms, and his tips to help you to do the same.
ABC breakfast presenter Ivo Da Silva, from Kalgoorlie in Western Australia, said this time last year he tipped the scales at 117 kilograms, when he decided something needed to be done about his burgeoning waistline.
Just one year later, Ivo has managed to lose 34 kilos and now weighs 83kg.
Even better, he hasn’t touched a drop of alcohol since and has discovered a new-found love of running, even entering marathons and other races.

NOW: ABC breakfast presenter Ivo Da Silva (pictured now), from Kalgoorlie in WA, said this time last year he tipped the scales at 117 kilograms, and now he weighs just 83kg
According to Ivo, it was principally his diet and drinking habits that caused him to pack on the weight:
‘My drinking included using having a beer or two after work most days, and then a glass or two of wine with dinner,’ Ivo told FEMAIL.
‘My diet was very poor. I would choose all the wrong foods and didn’t really have a good understanding of a balanced diet.’
Ivo said he loved cheese, bread and red wine. On any given day, he would usually ‘miss breakfast’ and then ‘order out for lunch’.
‘I did try a few fad diets before trying Jenny Craig, but nothing really worked and I would quickly fall back into old habits,’ he said.

Last July, Ivo decided to take charge of his health and ‘get his life on track’.
‘Conveniently, one of my friends asked if I would be the Regional Ambassador for Dry July,’ he said.
‘I thought it was a good idea to help with my health and fitness and raise some much-needed funds for my chosen charity, the Cancer Council of WA.’
While it was difficult at first, Ivo said he soon saw the benefits.
‘It was hard at the beginning, because I live in a regional town and a very common and social thing to do is meet up with friends at the pub.
‘But I soon learned to socialise without a drink or two. I’ve become a big black tea drinker. I love my tea!’

Today, Ivo follows a Jenny Craig diet plan, which means a typical day on his plate is varied but always tasty.
‘It’s very convenient to have my meals prepared and not have to have the same small meal every single day,’ he said.
‘Getting to try something different every day certainly helps me to stay on track.’
Ivo (pictured now) said ditching booze has given him a life he thought he had lost. He is no longer embarrassed to be in football and plays soccer at A grade level
The benefits have also been huge since Ivo ditched alcohol.
‘Giving up booze has showed me a life I thought I’d lost,’ he said. ‘I re-joined my soccer club, I played A grade for the first time in nine years.’
Ivo said he has also developed a love of running, and now participates in marathons, which is a new-found hobby of his.
‘I’ve been able to become social again,’ he added.
‘I take pride in the way I look after neglecting myself for so many years. I also love photos, instead of hiding in the corner as soon as a picture is going to be taken.’
Lastly, Ivo shared his advice for those wanting to try a new weight loss regime or give up drinking:
‘Know that you can do it, it’s not as scary as it sounds,’ he said.
‘Try giving up alcohol for a short time, and before you know it, you won’t miss it.’
