Women aren’t the only ones who experience a drop in their hormone levels as they age. Testosterone levels also decline, leaving men susceptible to oestrogen dominance.

This means that certain functions that rely on this hormone, including maintaining muscle mass, start to diminish. Often during this time, men find themselves developing belly fat they haven’t had previously.

Fortunately, switching up your lifestyle choices could help target this stubborn area. A medical herbalist has explained that men in their middle-age do not have to accept their weight gain. In fact, a simple 10-minute daily habit could help torch fat from this problematic area.

Medical herbalist Siobhan Carroll told GB News: “Pressure of work or a busy family life can reduce the amount of time you have to exercise. This reduces energy expenditure, usually without any accompanying reduction in food intake.

“Small but sustainable amounts of exercise, for example, a daily 10-minute walk, will have a surprisingly positive effect.”

The expert also stressed that exercise is particularly important for men who aren’t always getting enough sleep. When you get less sleep, you’re likely to consume more calories. But a brisk walking workout could “offset the additional intake that can feel necessary when sleep is short”.

Walking more could also help you sleep better which is key to effective weight loss, according to Dr Eric Berg. Speaking on his YouTube channel, he explained that the simple exercise can reduce stress and improve your sleep. He also added that not sleeping enough is a “big barrier” to losing weight.

Dr Berg also recommended combining walking with high-intensity interval training for the best weight-loss results. High-intensity exercise helps to activates certain hormones that are related to fat burning. The doctor said: “The more intense, the better. Of course, work up to it and make sure you don’t hurt yourself.”

If you’re also looking to boost your testosterone levels as you age, Dr Berg explained that inhibiting the enzyme that turns testosterone to oestrogen which is known as aromatase could be the answer. What’s more, he recommended a drink you can make at home to target this problem.

Dr Berg revealed that blending a whole lemon could help inhibit aromatase and offer benefits for the whole body. All you need to do is take a whole lemon and put it in a blender with a glass of water for 30 seconds, but he stressed that you need to include the lemon peel as that’s the important part.
