SINGER Ben Folds has finalized his divorce from his fifth wife, Emma Sandall, after six years of marriage.
The Ben Folds Five frontman, 57, filed for separation from his partner in December 2023, citing irreconcilable differences,
Ben and Emma tied the knot in Hawaii on January 20, 2017.
He listed their date of separation as November 20, 2023, in court documents obtained by PEOPLE.
The divorce was finalized on February 27, with Ben being ordered to pay Emma $475,000 for any interest she has in their Nashville home.
He must also pay her $650,000 in monthly payments of $27,083.33 over 24 months, and her car insurance for 12 months.
Additionally, Ben must “pay Emma $50,000 for furniture, sign over the title to a 2016 Honda CR-V that was initially under his name, and give her $210,000 AUD from a National Australian Bank account,” according to the filing.
The singer has been married four other times.
He was wed to his childhood best friend, songwriter Anna Goodman, from 1987 to 1992.
“Anna and I felt pressure to do something with our lives. Getting married was the thing you had to do. My mum was barely 20 when she had me – but it’s what you did,” he wrote in a 2012 piece in the Sydney Morning Herald.
“When we split, both of us found a lot more success in our lives. She is a dear close friend and always will be.”
He added that he worked with Anna on several songs from his group Ben Folds Five’s first two albums.
The alternative rock band were known for their sweet, often irreverent songs.
Ben married Kate Rosen briefly in 1996, around the time that Ben Folds Five found fame.
The musician attributed the relationship to being a “hopeless romantic.”
BEN’S BABY MAMA
He wed his third wife Frally Hynes in 1999 – the year they welcomed twins Gracie and Louie, 24.
“I lived in Adelaide during that time and would travel to the US to play gigs to earn money for the family. It was a heavy load, but we were blessed because of the twins,” Ben recalled in the 2012 article.
They moved to Nashville where they raised the twins and split in 2007.
Ben married Fleur Stanbrook in the same year he split from Frally.
They separated in 2011.
“I always jumped into situations too quickly, thinking that was the right thing. I’m reckless, which has helped in my music, but taking risks in my private life hasn’t measured up,” he admitted.
Earlier this month, Ben announced his 2024 Paper Airplanes Tour.
During his performances, fans can write their song requests on paper airplanes and launch them onto the stage.
