What’s Prime Day?

Amazon Prime Day is a massive two-day shopping event held exclusively for Prime members. During this time you’ll find deep discounts on products across all categories, including some of the lowest prices of the year (outside of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, that is). Previously, Prime Day ran exclusively in the summer, but last year on October 11 and 12, Amazon added a second event called the Prime Early Access Sale. This year, Amazon is calling its fall sale “Prime Big Deal Days,” but it’s informally known as “Second Prime Day” or “Prime Day Part Two.”

When is Amazon Prime Day 2023?

The first Prime Day event of 2023 took place from Tuesday, July 11 to Wednesday, July 12—and the second of the year will run next week from midnight P.T. on Tuesday, October 10, through midnight P.T. on Wednesday, October 11.

What should I expect to see on sale during Prime Day?

With the holidays around the corner, it’s likely you’ll see Prime Day discounts on a ton of great Amazon gift ideas. During July’s sale days, we saw fitness deals for NordicTrack treadmills and Hoka sneakers; tech deals on gadgets like Apple Watches, Sony QLED TVs, Bluetooth speakers, and Samsung Galaxy phones; kitchen and home deals, including Casper mattresses, iRobot Roomba robot vacuums, KitchenAids, Vitamix blenders, and Keurig coffee makers; and beauty and skin-care deals on Crest Whitestrips, Sunday Riley Good Genes serum, and the NuFace Mini.

Amazon offers great discounts on its own suite of products, as well, including Alexa-enabled Echo smart home devices, Ring video doorbells, SELF Fave Kindle e-readers, and Fire TV streaming sticks.

In addition to Amazon’s impressive discounts, there are all sorts of excellent Prime Day competitor deals from retailers like Target, Walmart, Nordstrom, and Best Buy. So, if you’ve put off purchasing Apple AirPods Pro, a Ninja air fryer, or a Fitbit, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better time to snag these sought-after goods.

Do I need to be a Prime member to save on these deals?

Yes! The markdowns are a major perk of Amazon’s Prime membership—in addition to free one- to two-day shipping. Not subscribed but still want to save? Sign up for a 30-day free trial, and you’re good to go (plus, you’ll gain access to Prime Video content).

What are the best early Prime Day deals?

Prime Day is often pure mayhem. There are easy-to-miss “Lightning Deals” starting and stopping at all hours—and sometimes, supplies and sizes run out before you have the chance to check out. Real pros know that ahead of the sales event, there are already some early Prime Day markdowns worth considering—and purchasing, if you want to avoid chaos (or are an impatient person).
