In recognition of Juneteenth, children’s television scientist Bill Nye posted a tweet pandering to the historical relevance of the date. Unfortunately, Bill Nye is not a history guy, as it turns out, and he found himself on the receiving end of a whole lot of pushback.

Look at his tweet. He lamely holds up a pocket Constitution and plasters a mediocre selfie next to it to show how smart he is. At least that’s my guess. It used to be that woke progressives mocked conservatives for carrying a pocket Constitution.

Let’s walk through this. Juneteenth, a mostly regional holiday until recently, is celebrated on June 19. The date commemorates when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865, two years after President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation. Lincoln freed three million slaves living in Confederate states in 1863 but it took two more years for Texas residents to learn that slavery had been abolished. This led the former slaves in Galveston to celebrate their freedom. They had already “officially” been freed, they just didn’t know it.

One responder explained the real meaning of the date.

Two union states had slavery until December 1865, you say? Which ones were those states? It’s a little awkward.

It’s not rocket science but it is American history and Mr. Smarty-Pants should know it.

June 19th commemorates the day that U.S. General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, on June 19, 1865 — and shared the news that the Emancipation Proclamation had been passed two years earlier. The Civil War had ended two months before June 1865.

Last year, Juneteenth became the nation’s 12th federal holiday through a 415-14 vote in the House of Representatives.

President Joe Biden signed the bill into law on June 17, 2021.

Senator John Cornyn, a Republican of Texas, worked for several years to get Juneteenth declared a national holiday and receive its proper recognition.

I have never understood the left’s fawning fandom for Bill Nye the Science Guy, to be honest. He had a children’s science show on television but he never seemed to rise to possessing knowledge on an adult level. He’s been very active in the climate change agenda of the far-left but that’s an easy way to find love on the left. Nye’s a chemical engineer so he’s not stupid. Weighing in on Juneteenth, though, just seemed so phony. And then he got his facts all mixed-up.

Then some light was shed on the reason Nye may have tweeted – he’s promoting a new television show. He’s been off-air for five years and NBCUniversal is bringing him back for six (!) episodes in a series titled The End is Nye. The show deals with global catastrophes which include “viruses to volcanoes, asteroids to authoritarianism, and climate change to chemical warfare” so it’s more of Nye’s politicizing of “science”. Allegedly Nye will show how global catastrophes can be “prevented and weathered through the power of science.” Gone is the lab coat and it is being replaced by a three-piece suit. Nye serves as both executive producer and host of the show.

Ditching his signature lab coat for a three-piece suit, Nye will serve as the executive producer and host for the show. Brannon Braga (Cosmos, Star Trek: First Contact) is attached as director and will appear in cameo appearances alongside Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane.

The official synopsis is as follows: “THE END IS NYE sends Bill Nye into the most epic global disasters imaginable –- both natural and unnatural -– and then demystifies them using science to show how we can survive, mitigate, and even prevent them.

The new show premieres later this summer on August 25 on Peacock. Let’s hope the show employs some fact-checkers along with the entertainment industry pros. Sorry, Native Americans and other immigrants. Bill Nye only recognizes the contributions of “enslaved Black Americans” in building this country.
