A woman accused of killing her lover in a bizarre drink-driving tragedy had already had her license taken away two months earlier, a court heard.

Tammy Lorimer, 43, is facing ‘unique manslaughter’ charges after she allegedly reversed over her girlfriend Doreen-Joan Lindsay, 35, while four times the legal alcohol limit.

Broome Magistrates Court heard the mother got behind the wheel after an afternoon of heavy drinking at their home in Cable Beach, WA, on Sunday.

But as she reversed down the driveway to go to local shops, Ms Lindsay walked into the path of the car, police say.

She was allegedly struck by the vehicle and then dragged underneath before Ms Lorimer noticed and slammed on the breaks.

Police and ambulance attended the scene but were unable to save Ms Lindsay who had suffered unsurvivable injuries.

A breathalyser allegedly showed Ms Lorimer had a breath alcohol count of 0.215 when the horror incident occurred.

But the court heard she had already been banned from getting behind the wheel after previous drink-driving offences prompted the courts to cancel her license for 42 months in September.

Ms Lorimer broke down in tears on Tuesday as Magistrate Stephen Sharratt said she had a ‘great number of road traffic offences’.

‘I think I’ll leave it there, she is looking quite stressed out,’ he remarked as she became more emotional.

Magistrate Sharratt acknowledged the case was unique because there was no allegations of violence between the pair in the lead up to the tragedy.

Ms Lorimer is charged with ‘unlawfully killing someone in such circumstances that do not constitute murder’. She did not enter a plea.

The court granted her $5,000 bail with conditions she must not drive and has to report to the local police station three times a week where she can be breath-tested and must blow less than 0.05.

The couple had been drinking with three teenagers earlier in the day, reported The West Australian.

Both are well-known in the local area and said to be active members of the LGBTQI+ community, as well as big Aussie Rules fans.

Those who knew who knew Ms Lindsay paid tribute to the beloved Broome local who worked at the local hospital and played with Ms Lorimer for the Towns Football Club.

‘Doreen was the most beautiful, happy person. Love and hugs to her kids and family,’ one reader posted on social media.

Another said: ‘My heart aches for both families so much, I know how much you love her Tammy.’

‘RIP beautiful Doors, your happy, bubbly smiling face will be sadly missed around Broome Hospital and the community,’ a colleague wrote.

Ms Lorimer will next face court on January 19, 2022.
