The tone-deaf mayor of Washington, Muriel Bowser, drew plenty of criticism over the weekend following her decision to weigh in on busloads of illegal migrants from Texas being dropped off in front of Vice President Kamala Harris’ official residence. The progressive mayor of the self-proclaimed sanctuary city declared that Washington simply isn’t set up to receive migrants and properly care for them. She claimed that her city does not have “the infrastructure” required to “handle” these levels of immigration. A clip of her saying these things quickly went viral on social media and by the time the public was done roasting her over this she was probably rethinking the wisdom of chiming in. (Daily Wire)
Washington D.C. Democrat Mayor Muriel Bowser complained Friday that the nation’s capital is not equipped for the influx of illegal immigrants being sent by red-state governors fed up with the porous Mexican border.
The Democrat mayor spoke days after two buses Texas GOP Governor Greg Abbott sent from Del Rio dropped off 100 illegal immigrants in front of Vice President Kamala Harris’s official residence at the Naval Observatory. Abbott and fellow GOP chief executives Ron DeSantis, of Florida, and Doug Ducey, of Arizona, have stepped up their efforts to bring the border crisis to blue states and cities.
“We’re not a border town,” Bowser told reporters Friday. “We don’t have an infrastructure to handle this type of and level of immigration to our city … We’re not Texas.”

Bowser claimed that she was going to get to work building some sort of “infrastructure” to deal with incoming migrants, but until that is done they will need to go elsewhere. Her suggestion that Washington “isn’t Texas” and isn’t “a border town” suggested that she believes they should remain in the Lone Star State.
Unfortunately for the Mayor, as the linked report reminds us, she proudly declared Washington to be a sanctuary city for illegal aliens back in 2018. That was almost five years ago. And in all that time she hasn’t lifted a finger to set up any sort of resources to be made available if some of the migrants in question actually showed up to take her up on her offer?
As an additional reminder, we’re talking about a couple of hundred migrants so far. And they are arriving in a “sanctuary city” with a population of more than 700,000 souls. Compare that to the 35,000 people in Del Rio, Texas, where they see more than one thousand illegal migrants in the average week. The shelters of all types in Del Rio have been at full capacity for nearly two years. Yes, Del Rio is a “border town,” but that title doesn’t magically imbue them with the ability to handle a human flood like the one we’ve been witnessing.
Just the same as with Martha’s Vineyard, Washington doesn’t need some sort of special, designated place for illegal migrants to stay out of the rain. Are there no churches in Washington anymore? The churches along the border in Texas and Arizona are overflowing with migrants. Are there no residents of Washington willing to go to the store and pick up some food to drop off so the migrants could have a meal? That’s the bare minimum she should be able to manage even if she hadn’t declared the sanctuary status of her city.
This is yet more evidence that all of the liberal crowing coming from blue cities around the country about being “sanctuaries” was nothing but empty virtue signaling. They all love to “support” illegal aliens, but only until they actually show up on their doorstep. And then it’s suddenly an emergency or a humanitarian crisis or whatever. Welcome to the party, pal. You literally rolled out the welcome mat for these people on national television. Now figure out what to do with them. Or, if you don’t like that plan, maybe you could publicly talk to the President about closing the damn border. I believe he lives fairly close to you. (At least when he’s not at his mansion in Delaware, hidden behind a massive wall manned by armed guards.)
