A wealthy businessman has denied being part of a plot to plant bombs in the heart of London’s legal district.

Jonathan Nuttall, 49, of Romsey, Hampshire, faces a seven-week Old Bailey trial from April 17 next year, alongside four other defendants.

He is accused of planting two explosive devices in the area of Gray’s Inn in central London, which is home to a number of British law firms.

Today, he pleaded not guilty to two counts of conspiracy to place an article with the intention of inducing a belief the article was likely to explode or ignite, on or before September 14 2021. 

The other defendants charged over the same alleged conspiracy are: Michael Broddle, 45, and Joshua Broddle, 20, both of Hounslow, west London, Michael Sode, 57, of Deptford, south-east London, and a 17-year-old youth.

Michael Broddle has previously admitted being part of the bomb plot and two charges of possessing an explosive substance.

The 17-year-old defendant, who cannot be identified because of his age, has denied the plot and one charge of possessing explosives.

Nuttall, Sode, Michael and Joshua Broddle deny a further conspiracy to transfer criminal property, money, between February 2021 and March 2022.

All the defendants are on bail apart from Michael Broddle, who is on remand at Wandsworth jail.
